Exports of Taiwan Machine Tool in 2022

Cumulative exports reached US$3.023 billion in 2022, up 8.6% from 2021.

According to the data provided by Taiwan Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance, analyzed by Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’Association (TMBA), Taiwan machine tool exports reached total US$3.023 billion in 2022, a 8.6% increase from 2021. Among them, metal cutting machine tool exports grew 10.4% to US$2.543 billion, while metal forming machine tool exports grew 0.2% to US$480 million. The machine tool export value in December 2022 declined by 0.8% compared with November 2022, with metal cutting machine tool exports declining by 1.8% and metal forming machine tool exports growing by 4.6%.

In 2022, the major export type of metal cutting machine tool was Machining Centers, with an export value of US$1.044 billion, up 10.9% from 2021; Lathes ranked second, with an export value of US$685 million, up 16% from 2021. As to the exports of metal forming machine tool, Presses and shearing machines was about US$376 million, an decrease of 0.5% compared to 2021, please refer to Table 1 for detailed statistics.

 

Major Export Markets for Machine Tool
Analyzed by export countries (regions), the top ten countries (regions) for Taiwan's machine tool exports in 2022 are: China (including Hong Kong), the United States, Turkey, Vietnam, Russia, the Netherlands, Italy, India, Thailand and Malaysia. Among them, Taiwan's exports to China (including Hong Kong) amounted to nearly US$808 million, a decrease of 11.3% over 2021, accounting for 26.7% of the total exports; the United States market ranked second, with exports of nearly US$445 million, a significant increase of 37.7% over 2021, accounting for 14.7% of the total exports; Turkey ranked third, with exports of 254 million, an  increase of 5.4% compared to 2021, accounting for 8.4% of the total exports.
